May’s Fresh Flowers | Stunning fragrant flowers delivered to Tweed Heads today!
Tweed Heads is a coastal town situated at the mouth of the Tweed River, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, in the local government area of Tweed Shire. The town sits on the New South Wales Queensland border, its northern twin town being Coolangatta. Due to the town’s unique location, in a novel quirk, partygoers can celebrate New Year’s Eve in Tweed Heads and then celebrate New Year again across the border in Coolangatta an hour later as Queensland does not observe daylight saving time like New South Wales.
Following the European settlement of Australia, John Oxley was the first European to visit the Tweed Valley in 1823. Oxley found the area’s scenery to be particularly beautiful and unlike anything he had seen in Australia. Timber cutters established themselves in the Tweed Valley in 1844. Tweed Heads was first subdivided in 1888. Tweed Heads was the location of the fictional town of Porpoise Spit in the movie Muriel’s Wedding.
Tweed Heads’ town centre is concentrated around the Tweed River and Terranora Creek. The town continues uninterrupted into neighbouring Coolangatta, a suburb of the Gold Coast. The New South Wales Queensland border terminates in Tweed Heads, in the town’s north, near the Tweed River’s ocean opening.
