Chinderah is a town situated south of Tweed Heads in the Northern Rivers region New South Wales. The town forms part of the local government area of the Tweed Shire. Chinderah is ideally located next to Kingscliff Beach and Wommin Bay. The greater town area includes a golf course, a small shopping precinct and an industrial estate. Chinderah is found between Banora Point to the north and Cudgen to the south.
The area that makes up Chinderah today was first surveyed in 1863. Afterwards, it developed into an agricultural centre with a major sugarcane industry. Today its sugarcane is used to make rum. Chinderah was bisected by the Pacific Highway in 1996. Chinderah has a particularly older population compared to the rest of Australia, owing to its popularity with retirees thanks to the area’s warm weather and tranquil beachside lifestyle.
Chinderah Golf is located in the town’s east, not far from Kingscliff Beach. Nearby to the golf course is Chinderah’s retail precinct. The town’s built up residential streets are largely found to the north, on the Tweed River and not far from Kingscliff Beach.
