Bogangar is a town situated south of Tweed Heads in the Northern Rivers region New South Wales. The town forms part of the local government area of Tweed Shire. Cudgen Lake, Norries Headland and the locality of Cabarita Beach all lie within greater Bogangar, and many locals refer to Bogangar as Cabarita Beach. Bogangar is situated between Casuarina to the north and Round Mountain to the south.
Bogangar is believed to derive its name from the Bandjalang-Yugambeh dialect word ‘bobingah’ meaning a highland. Bogangar is also an aboriginal word meaning a place of many pippies. Bogangar Public School opened in 2004 and 3,060 people lived in Bogangar in 2016 when the latest census took place.
Cudgen Lake and Cudgen Nature Reserve are found inland in Bogangar’s north. The town’s built up residential streets are in the centre east, next to Cabarita Beach, Maggies Beach, Norries Beach and Bogangar Beach. Norries Headland is found between Cabarita Beach and Maggies Beach. A retail strip is found on Tweed Coast Road behind Cabarita Beach.
