Currumbin is a coastal suburb of the Gold Coast situated northwest of Tweed Heads. Currumbin forms part of the local government area of the City of Gold Coast. The suburb enjoys warm weather and a tranquil beachside atmosphere. Currumbin is near the Queensland New South Wales state border. The suburb is located between Palm Beach to the north and Currumbin Waters to the south.
Currumbin is a word from the Bundjalung language, meaning high trees. Currumbin Creek Provisional School opened in 1896 and closed in 1905. The first subdivisions were sold in the suburb in 1904. Currumbin Lower State School opened in 1909 and in 1924 was renamed Currumbin State School. The first hotel in the area was built in 1910 and a thriving tourism industry developed.
Currumbin Beach is found in the suburb’s east. Currumbin Rock and Currumbin Alley are situated in the suburb’s north at the opening to Currumbin Creek next to Wallace Nicoll Park. Currumbin Hill Conservation Park is found in the suburb’s centre.
