Terranora is a town situated southwest of Tweed Heads in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, in the local government area of Tweed Shire. Terranora is in the state electorate of Tweed and the federal division of Richmond. The town sits between Terranora Creek and the Tweed River. Terranora enjoys proximity to a number of excellent ocean beaches including Dreamtime Beach and Kingscliff Beach. The town is found between Bilambil Heights to the north and Stotts Creek to the south.
At the 2021 census, Terranora recorded a median age four years above the national median of 38. Like many towns in the Northern Rivers region, Terranora is popular with retirees thanks to its warm climate and tranquil beachside lifestyle, of which it enjoys proximity. The famous children’s author Hesba Fay Brinsmead lived in the town from 1976 until the early 2000s.
On the northern border of Terranora lies Terranora Creek where it opens up into a large body of water. The Tweed River forms Terranora’s southeastern border. Terranora’s built-up areas are largely found in its centre from east to west, with the town’s southern and northern regions largely consisting of bushland.
