North Tumbulgum is a locality situated southwest of Tweed Heads in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, in the local government area of Tweed Shire. North Tumbulgum is in the state electorate of Tweed and the federal division of Richmond. The town enjoys proximity to the ocean beaches of Kingscliff and Casuarina and is located not far from the New South Wales Queensland border. North Tumbulgum is found between Bungalora to the north and Tumbulgum to the south.
As of the 2021 Australian census, North Tumbulgum had a population of 238 people, slightly less than its 256 people counted at the 2016 census. Like many areas surrounding Tweed Heads, North Tumbulgum has a higher median age to the Australian median, owing to the area’s popularity with retirees thanks to its warm weather and tranquil beachside lifestyle.
North Tumbulgum sits on the Tweed River, which acts as its natural eastern and southern border. Stotts Island sits on the Tweed River opposite North Tumbulgum.
