May’s Fresh Flowers | Stunning fragrant flowers delivered to Coolangatta today!
Coolangatta is a coastal beachside suburb situated 24 kilometres southeast of the Gold Coast’s Surfers Paradise, in the local government area of the City of Gold Coast. Sitting on the Queensland New South Wales state border, Coolangatta is immediately north of its “Twin Town” Tweed Heads. Coolangatta is popular with tourists and locals alike for its fabulous beaches, warm climate and beachside lifestyle. The suburb is found between the Coral Sea to the north and Tweed Heads to the south.
Following the European settlement of Australia, Coolangatta was one of the earliest settlements of the Gold Coast. From 1828 a convict station and red cedar getters operated in the area. The suburb was named after the schooner Coolangatta, which was wrecked on Kirra / Bilinga Beach in 1846.
Coolangatta’s southern border is also the Queensland New South Wales State Border. At Lovers Rock park in the east, the border terminates upon meeting the Coral Sea. Coolangatta Beach and Rainbow Bay Beach are located in the suburb’s north, and both are rather unique in that they are north facing beaches. A vibrant shopping and dining precinct is based on Griffith Street in between Goodwin Park and Coolangatta Beach.
