Cabarita Beach is a beachside town situated south of Tweed Heads in the Northern Rivers region New South Wales. The town is a locality of the settlement of Bogangar and forms part of the local government area of the Tweed Shire. Cabarita Beach is coveted by tourists and surfers for its warm weather and tranquil sea side. Cabarita Beach is located between Casuarina to the north and Hastings Point to the south.
Cabarita is an aboriginal word that means by the water. David Anderson of the New South Wales Corps was granted land in the district in 1795 and the area surrounding Cabarita Point was reserved for recreation in 1795. The Cabarita Hotel opened in 1960 and was the first major development in the area. The original hotel has now been replaced by a modern glass, chrome and concrete building.
The town’s namesake beach is a small one, located off Norries Headland. The larger Bogangar Beach and Maggies Beach are found to the north and south respectively. Cabarita Beach has a small retail strip on Tweed Coast Road.
